Failing Grade in Psychology, How??

Category: the Rant Board

Post 1 by hardyboy09 (I'm going for the prolific poster awards!) on Wednesday, 09-May-2012 16:43:20

Hi all,

I am just writing this post mainly to vent. A few days ago, I had a C in Psychology. Today, I looked at my grade, and I had an F. How could that be when the final exam grade has not even been factored in yet? If that is what I truly have in the course, I feel as if I wasted all of my energy. Each day for that course, I had to hire a reader to literally read everything to me, because the assignments that were conducted on the computer would not read with Jaws. I am just so crushed and upset at the moment. I spent so many hours in that class. I worked so diligently to ensure that all the deadlines were met. I may have skipped an assignment once, but that was very rare. I contacted the professor, but she takes a long time to respond sometimes. Great, that will look excellent on my GPA. I would have had a 3.0 Oh well for that, I guess, if that is truly what my grade is.
Nathan
Have any of you failed a college class before?

Post 2 by LeoGuardian (You mean there is something outside of this room with my computer in it?) on Wednesday, 09-May-2012 18:58:22

I did have this happen once, in a paleontology class in college. I got awarded the wrong grade - an F instead of a C.
The best thing to do if you contest the grade is go to the professor, and they'll be able to check their records and put things right. That is, if there is a misprint in the grading system someplace. In those days, the professor said that since computer grading systems were relatively new, it was the fault of the program. But certainly anything could cause something to come up missing.
I never contested a grade based on what I thought it should be, though. Not in terms of work turned in or anything: this was just a glaring mistake that didn't add up with the actual results. Just keep your head, grow a pair, and avoid any juvenile 'not-fair' type responses. If it's a misprint someplace you can get that fixed. Otherwise, they're the final word.

Agree with post 2; if you did your work and made sure deadlines were met, then it could just be a misprint. Computers are great but they do sometimes make mistakes lol. I would just recommend you contact your professor to figure out what's going on in terms of your grade and any missing assignments that you could still turn in to improve it.

Post 4 by hardyboy09 (I'm going for the prolific poster awards!) on Thursday, 10-May-2012 16:51:11

Thanks you all. I have contacted her, and I am awaiting her response. I just wonder if that is the final grade, if my GPA would dip so low that VR would not pay for my college? That is my big concern here.

Post 5 by LeoGuardian (You mean there is something outside of this room with my computer in it?) on Thursday, 10-May-2012 18:36:08

That's a question only your VR or grant people, or maybe an attorney at your school if you have Student Legal Aid, can help you with.I didn't know so-called "rehab" agencies paid compensation for parochial schools. I know they at least used to be somewhat particular about the degrees they would finance - no underwater basket-weaving / philosophy / religion degrees that have no economic benefit to the taxpayer in getting you a real job. I dunno, maybe political correct types have changed all of that now.

Post 6 by roxtar (move over school!) on Friday, 11-May-2012 1:31:55

Maybe if your room mate isn't too awful busy playing with his play station, you can guilt trip him into taking you to class so you can talk to your psych professor in person.
Yeah... That's right, we were all thinking it.

Post 7 by OceanDream (An Ocean of Thoughts) on Friday, 11-May-2012 13:43:03

Admitedly, you're right. But that may or may not have any validity in this particular topic. I personally don't think we have enough information to make that determination.

Post 8 by Smiling Sunshine (I've now got the bronze prolific poster award! now going for the silver award!) on Friday, 11-May-2012 16:00:15

Ah man, that's a bummer. Welcome to college though.
Hopefully, your prof will be able to clear things up but if not, and you do end up receiving the F, sadly, it's just one of many disappointments and unfair things that happen in the world of grown-ups.

I'll never forget my first semester of college. I got hit by a car during the 2nd week of school and had to have knee surgery. Then my trakea collapsed during surgery so I missed more school due to complications of recovery. I had an American History class that was just kicking my butt all over the place. I had a Kurtzweil Reading Edge that didn't like my history book and the readers I hired sucked. I knew I would be transfering to a different school the following year so I met with the prof and asked her if I should drop her class to focus on my others because I didn't want to continue working so hard in history only to get a D. She reassured me that everything would be fine so long as I did well on the final. Well, I studied my butt off and did what I thought was great on the final exam. When I got my grade sheet in the mail over the Christmas holiday, I had a D in the history class which did not transfer to my new school. I was heart broken but ultimately had to just take it on the chin and keep putting one foot in front of the other. I had to retake the history class at my new school and ended up meeting a lady who would become one of my very best college friends.

I'm impressed that you got VR to pay for a private school. Our agency won't so count yourself lucky. I wouldn't expect 1 failing grade to ruin your GPA to the point that they wouldn't continue to pay. You might be on a probationary status but like someone else said, that's up to your VRC.

It's disappointing when we don't do as well in a class as we think our efforts should have allowed but unfortunately, that's how life is. I know this message probably sounds tough right now and perhaps feels like a slap in the face, when you were really just looking for some encouragement. Sorry about that. Don't give up though. These are the bumps along the road of life and they're going to happen. You will get through this.

Thanks:)

She's looking into it.

Hahahahahaha rockstar, like I need someone to take me to her class, I know how to get their, so shut your fucking mouth, you fucking asshole and criticize someone else for a change.

I'm finished with college anyway, so go fuck yourself.

Ok, I've got no moral bias against the F word, but give it a rest? It can be a good way to get a point across sometimes but when it's every word in the sentence it does get old.

Hey, I'm sick of people criticizing me on this site. So, for once, I decided to do something about it.

I hate when people think they're all cocky and untouchable. That is what rock star thinks, that he is so big and bad. Well think again.

Oh yeah, and I got my final grade in Psych, got a D, one point away from a C. Wooops! Good thing is I don't have to retake the course, yea!

Post 13 by season (the invisible soul) on Sunday, 13-May-2012 6:13:55

Do you seriously know the different between people criticizing you and people having a point of view? seems like you don't. And, even if people criticizing you, do you ever asking yourself why must us, people, criticizing you? Obviously not. Cause it seems to me that, the only way you know how to deal with your problem is either agree with those who agreeing with you, who pity, and sympathy with you and your situation. or, bite those who slap you on the face, asking you to be a grow up, to be an adult.

Honestly, you fail or pass your psychology subject is none of our business. We won't wip and cry for you, just because you fail. There are tons of people won't graduate from a diploma or degree for one reason or another. Even if you fail it is not the end of the world.

If you use a slight friendlier approach, you will find people are more likely to help you, to share your problems with you, than criticizing you.

You mention you don't use F word in your real life, you don't sware and stuff. But you are proving otherwise on here.

You are not the only one who needs a reader, who can't access the text like a sighted student does. There're hundrets if not thousands of us out there betalling our way in the system. You are not the only one.

At the end of the day, you are the one who need to stand up, to raise up from all these, and move forward. But guess what? sorry for brining another bad news to you. Swaring, criticizing, wining aint gonna get you anyware. Those people you call jerk, or any other names you gave to them, could be the very people that help you at the very end.

This is life, you won't get what you want all the time, it is just how life is.

Post 15 by Striker (Consider your self warned, i'm creative and offensive like handicap porn.) on Sunday, 13-May-2012 13:01:53

So, if they are really getting to you so much, why are you feeding the trolls?
People are giving you shit in part because you deserve some of it, but more importantly because you react to it so violently, yet you do so like a muzzled dog. No one is taking your tough guy act remotely seriously. In part due to how you act and portray your self in other places. We all know its just your psychological reaction to feeling exposed and uncomfortable. Which just motivates the trolls to push you further. Your attitude is what brought them, and it is what they will keep feeding off of, until you get your shit together. Trying to act all tough isn't good enough. Letting peoples comments fuel your fire of insecurity is not good enough.
Last but not least, if they bug you, stop responding, stop playing there game. Stop trying to gain from it, because everyone knows why this happened and how you can get yourself out of the situation, if you wish to.
If you don't change your ways, you will be the soul one responsible for damming yourself to a vicious cycle of people ripping you apart.
Don't even think of trying to blame them for trolling you, because *YOU!* are giving them that power, and the ability to exploit you.

I know that sounds harsh, but its the truth. Also, just because you don't like someones way of communicating a message to you doesn't mean that they are not saying anything you don't need to here. Part of being productive is taking the valuable advice and throwing out the packaging.

She can't type as well as you can, in English. I bet she could beat you any day in her native language, though. I suggest you look at her profile before making the assumption that she can't type, *English*

This is nowhere even near trash TV material. For one thing, nobody is being accused of sleeping with their one-legged developmentally delayed dwarf cousin. We are also nowhere near the point where all we can say at one another is "fuck you" and making accusations of being bitches, sluts or whores. This is just one guy who seems to have little tolerance for opinions that point out his flaws or people whose first language isn't English.

Post 25 by The Roman Battle Mask (Making great use of my Employer's time.) on Wednesday, 16-May-2012 15:12:41

According to Buttercup's user profile she lives in Australia, and last I knew English is Australia's native language. There for expecting her to be proficient in English is not unreasonable.

Post 26 by OceanDream (An Ocean of Thoughts) on Wednesday, 16-May-2012 16:08:46

As I understand it, she lives in Australia, but was born and raised in another country where English is not the native language. the importance of her knowing how to speak and write English profficiently by this point really depends on how long she's been there. If anyone has any other *factual* information on the matter, besides her current location, I'd love to hear about it.

Post 27 by GreenTurtle (Music is life. Love. Vitality.) on Wednesday, 16-May-2012 17:18:32

Sometimes, it doesn't matter if you're living around English-speaking people, or how long you've known the language, if it's not your first language, you might never be as fluent in it. And I'm sure this goes for anyone who's learned an additional language too, not just English. Really, that's a low blow to insult someone's spelling when you can clearly tell just by the particular errors this person makes that English isn't her first language.

Post 28 by Imprecator (The Zone's Spelling Nazi) on Wednesday, 16-May-2012 17:47:19

I was curious about that. And I can totally understand. I tried to learn Spanish for the benefit of a former GF and I just can't get the hang of it. I can't really roll my R's properly. When I try I sound like a theatrical British person LOL. And then there's French. Everytime I try to pronounce the French R I sound German.

Post 31 by season (the invisible soul) on Thursday, 17-May-2012 6:56:41

oh well, same old same old story, when one have nothing to say, they can only atact one's ability to type, speak, spell etc etc. I'm not major in language, nor i plan to be one. just for the record, last count, i can speak about 6 languages. Yes, i admit that my writing is not as great as my speaking, but, i don't see the link between my language ability, vs my typing ability, and my level of intelegent.
Just because you from english country you think you are smartter than others? Just because you stay in America, you think you can acuse other of not speaking the level of english you expect?
Just because i'm' from Australia i expect to speak and write perfect english? if not, i shall be judge?

Grow up kids, grow up from your fantacy world.

In fact, there are evidents prove that, if you, yes, you fellow americans level of english proficiency is not the best, in fact, far from it.

So, don't judge other, just because you are from america, so call American and you think you are the best, and have the right to look others down?

Look at yourself, judge your own, before you judging others by their ability of english.

I've personally spoken to Joanne, and she is just as intelegent and easy to talk to if not more so than you and I. Get a girl, drink some beer, or relearn that Freudian crap because god knows you need it.
In fact, some adaquit freudians would argue that your pethetic attempts to lash out at us are the result of your past child hood trama. Such trama was most likely caused by an overbearing parental figure.

Just want to say one thing:
The comments about growing up and taking it on the chin are all well and good.
The comment about taking the Playstation-playing roommate to go talk to the psych prof as company was clearly meant as a goad, and it succeeded. Don't poke sleeping dogs lest you are bitten. Rockstar got as good as he gave, albeit in fumbling fashion.
To attack Buttercup was just plain silly; I'll be honest and say that sometimes she is a touch difficult to understand, but I could tell without any real scrutiny that English isn't her first language so that's something I could never in good conscience impune.

Post 40 by BryanP22 (Novice theriminist) on Tuesday, 29-May-2012 17:41:40
